Overstock is changing its name to Bed Bath & Beyond

If you’re one of the many people who were dismayed to hear about Bed Bath & Beyond’s bankruptcy earlier this year and its retail locations will be closing, we’ve got an exciting update for you: The beloved retailer is going to live—only in a different way than we currently know it to be.

On June 28, it was announced that home retail site Overstock had acquired Bed Bath & Beyond and some of its assets at auction and the brands would be combined to create a single online home shopping destination within the Bed Bath & Beyond domain.

“This acquisition is an important and transformative step for us,” Overstock CEO Jonathan Johnson said in a press release. “Bed Bath & Beyond is a popular consumer brand, well-known in the home retail market. A winning combination of our assets – light business model, high awareness and loyalty The Bed Bath & Beyond brand will improve customer experience and position the company for exponential market share growth.”

Within the next week, the brand says it plans to relaunch the Bed Bath & Beyond domain in Canada, followed later by an update to the website, mobile app, and loyalty program in the United States. Overstock’s current loyalty program, Club O, will now be called Welcome Bonuses.

Customers can expect to be able to shop from the wide selection of home furnishings that Overstock is known for, such as décor, outdoor furniture, sofas, and more as well as the kitchen, bedding, and bathroom essentials you’d normally find at Bed Bath & Beyond. Basically, we expect it to be the ultimate home shopping destination.

The acquisition did not include any of the Bed Bath & Beyond brick-and-mortar stores. Many retailers’ leases have been auctioned off to companies such as Burlington Coat Factory, Micheal’s, and more.

Johnson said, “Combining the strengths of the Overstock operating model and the Bed Bath & Beyond brand will create a powerful synergy. I’m excited for consumers to experience the new Bed Bath and even bigger and better Beyond.”

Since Bed Bath & Beyond’s has been known for giving out coupons and hosting big deal events and Overstock is constantly racking up big sales, we imagine there will be plenty of bargains to be had from the new iteration of the brand. Speaking of which, Overstock is currently holding a clearance event on the Fourth of July and has over 1 million items marked. So below, we’re sharing some of the deals we plan to add to our carts while we wait to learn more about the new (and possibly improved) Bed Bath & Beyond.
